Surrender

Give way and back down from combat,

Bow your head and let defeat consume,

The angst is broken into pieces of glass,

The ground is tarnished, broken, and bruised.

They won; proud and tall they stand,

With bliss they breathe, heaven in hand,

And they’ve conquered the pride from our souls,

Now we’re left with a white flag onshore.

They sail their ships and move on,

Leaving us with the grains of sand,

Feeling dejected and lost in the world of the unknown,

The lingering scent of failure dripping from our hands.

And so we lost in the name of fair and just,

We played our heart and soul till the end,

And when the realisation struck, that it was not worth living,

We lifted the flag to claim, we surrender

And we walk home with bare hands,

Knowing, our people will be sullen and wretched,

But our souls hold a more meaningful purpose,

Of living life to relish, not regret.
